I was appointed Police Magistrate on January 1st 1884 and since then have acted
as
Coroner, and as Registrar of the Supreme Court (my present substantive office) on various occasions, and as Puisne Judge on two occasions and for several years also as a member of the Commission
for the
Revision of the
Laws
and Ordinances of Hong Kong.
Since March 1885, in consequence
of the exigencies of the service, there were (with the exception
of the 12 months from March 1891 to March 1892, when I performed the duties of both Magistrates) been six
consecutive months at
the Magistracy.
The knowledge of Chinese is quite unnecessary for the performance of my present
duties as Registrar.
Under these circumstances, I would humbly request.
